Brightworks is a K-12 school that reimagines education. By taking the best practices from both early childhood education and hands-on, project-based experiential learning, we strive to meet students’ needs in a flexible, mixed-age environment that breaks the conventional walls between school and the community outside the classroom. We offer a broad-spectrum learning environment designed to encourage creative capacity, tenacity, and citizenship. Only part of a Brightworks education takes place on school grounds. During the Exploration phase especially, we are on the go to wherever there are interesting and useful bits of knowledge to add to our growing collection. Collaborators and students aim to take a field trip once a week. At least once a year, we take an overnight field trip as a school. The world is just as much a part of the Brightworks education as the school building and often has more to teach than can be learned by staying in one place.
