Penguin Valentines at the California Academy of Sciences

On Valentine’s Day, Saturday, February 14, California Academy of Sciences biologists will distribute heart-shaped valentines to the Academy’s colony of African penguins during their 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. feedings. The male penguins typically accept the hearts and present them to their female counterparts as nest-lining material.

Attention lovebirds: Join us at our annual Penguin Valentines event, where our colony of curious (and critically endangered) African penguins will munch fish and receive felt hearts from their admirers—and you will learn about the important animal husbandry and conservation work done by our Steinhart Aquarium biologists.
