Conveniently located in downtown San Rafael, WildCare is a Wildlife Hospital and Nature Education Center that has been a part of the community for decades. With 16 non-releasable Wildlife Ambassador Animals housed onsite, WildCare provides a unique camp experience featuring live animals for children ages 3 ½ to 11 years old.
Many of these animals are former patients in WildCare’s Wildlife Hospital that, due to various injuries, cannot return to their home in the wild. These animals serve as ambassadors for their species, inspiring empathy and stewardship of our planet.
In addition to off-site hikes, nature crafts, and wildlife-themed games, campers will get to meet and even help prepare food for WildCare’s non-releasable animal ambassadors.
Some of the activities your camper may participate in with the animals include: making toys for a Turkey Vulture, meeting a Northern Spotted Owl, preparing snacks for a Virginia Opossum, watching an Acorn Woodpecker cache his food, touching a Desert Tortoise or a California Kingsnake.
WildCare’s Wildlife Camps continue the legacy of Elizabeth Terwilliger (affectionately known as Mrs. T) by using her renowned multi-sensory approach to teach children about wildlife and our environment.
Each week-long camp session is for a specific age group and have themes like “Wild California,” “Weird and Wonderful,” and “Secrets of Survival.” Off-site hike locations include Rodeo Beach, Gerstle Park, and Phoenix Lake. A camp schedule can be found on our website. Camp pricing ranges from $225-$395. Scholarships are available. $20 discounts for members.
